ADSR Drum Machine [WiN]
A drum machine is a module of drum sounds with a sequencer built-in to make performance easier. It can be considered a virtual drummer that agrees with you every step of the way. Furthermore, it includes various features that capture the traits of music genres, such as the stuttering effect in EDM.
It uses AI technology to analyze your countless samples and organize them into categories based on their common characteristics. It aims to speed up creating cohesive and interesting drum kits and make creating beats an easy process.
Like the previous one, the focus of DrumComputer is on producing drums for electronic and dance genres. Many great features like the chain of patterns and options that can give you humanized performance make it an excellent choice for live performance.
Running this plugin is easy as it can be. Drag and drop a preset from the library into the matrix of drum pads and start rolling with it. By utilizing the Main page, Modulation option, and Effects option, enable tons of features that could affect the sound of your drums.
Considering all the enumerated features, we find Battery 4 a high-quality and easy-to-use plugin with tons of sounds. Although it may not be the perfect solution for natural drum sounds, it is a logical option for producing hip-hop and dance grooves.
This plugin tries hard to have the perfect balance between being practical and easy to use, and it pays off. In essence, it is a drum module with multiple drum kits and a library of midi loops. You can mix and match them to your liking. Further, you can drag the loops into your DAW for further editing.
Heartbeat is a software drum synth that recreates the sounds of famous Korg, Roland, etc. drum synths from the 80s. It comes with multiple drum engines for each drum sound like kick, snare, hi-hat, and percussions. In addition, it also has controls for volume, pan, and FX send levels in each channel.
The drum machine provides a synth engine and a sampler to generate drum sounds, which we will get into later. And finally, BreakTweaker prioritizes drum tone in mixing. So, you will find detailed distortion, filters, and chorus instead of reverbs or delays.
If you are a fan of the Roland TR-909 drum machine, you will enjoy this plugin. It captures the long-standing classic used in pop, hip-hop, electro, and many other genres. The multi-out feature also provides much more flexibility than one would expect.
Drumper is honestly a rewarding download, regardless of whether or not you are a fan of it yet. It includes many built-in drum sounds, and having more of those is never bad. However, the morphing engine also makes it a breath of fresh air in the free drum machine market.
SUB recreates the famous sounds of analog drums in software form. There are altogether 16 drum sounds, each with a unique synth engine under the hood. While the sound is different, we could compare it to Rhythm 55 or Roland TR-707. Interestingly, the interface of this plugin is resizable.
After struggling with the most baffling parts of the 808, you will finally grasp how the machine works. The work allows the instrument to operate at its full potential: a highly dynamic and varied live set.
If you are after a collection of drum sounds for trap, hip-hop, and EDM, you should undoubtedly look into TRAX. There are over 400 drum samples in it with basic effects built-in. However, we should point out that the interface can sometimes be frustrating, but the low price counters it well.
The SR-88 is, of course, based on the affordable SoundMaster Memory Rhythm SR-88 drum machine. It features five drum pieces, including a kick, snare, two hi-hats, and a cymbal. Similarly, there is a simple pattern sequencer that also supports midi drag-and-drop into your DAW.
Captain Beat is loaded with preset sounds and grooves. You can mix and match various midi grooves and variations or even drum sounds to make your perfect drum track. Or, use your own drum samples by simply dragging and dropping. It also includes some effects for onboard mixing.
We would suggest Captain Beat as a comprehensive drum machine capable of just about anything you could require. It includes plenty of built-in sounds and also supports user samples. Further, its midi library is highly inspiring for any music producer. Seriously, for its price, this plugin is undeniably a steal.
We hope the sea of drum machine plugins has somewhat become easier to navigate by now. As we mentioned earlier, you almost always have to consider your music genre when it comes to picking one of these. So, we will be talking about some genres and relevant plugins next.
TRAX DRUM MACHINE"Take your beats to the next level!"We are proud to present to you a new drum plugin that will change the game! TRAX is the newest drum VST plugin launched in 2019, ready to offer over 400 hard-hitting drums for making modern Hip-Hop, Trap, RnB, EDM, and more.Expect to get 50 Drum Kits, each including punchy kicks, snares, claps, hats, etc. The mixer has 8 channels with full controls for volume, pan, pitch, reverb, and custom FX layers (Layer A, Layer B, Layer C, Layer D).The graphical user interface is very easy to use, our designers were inspired by the Avid Eleven Rack hardware unit. If you ask why? We just liked this design and we thought Trax looks really good, just like a hardware rack. It offers you access to an 8-channel mixer with built-in reverb and up to four FX layers for each channel. On the first two channels, we have the kick drums, on next two channels we have the snares, next are the stick/clap sounds, hi-hats and on the last two channels, we have some cool FX samples.
At the moment, my setup is based around an Elektron Analog Four and a Virus TI, so most of the samples have been made with these. I also recently bought a very cheap Arturia Microbrute which sounds insanely good and makes incredible sound FX and drums. It also has a small CV patch bay, which is very useful for sequencing the Microbrute with the Analog Four sequencer.
You can use your digital piano as a MIDI controller, allowing you to play in notes as you would a piano piece, and have your computer output this as other instruments (such as a drum kit) via the use of a VSTi.
If you only wish to use a few samples for different sounding drums, you can just work on a single computer or laptop and will not need a lot of RAM to do so (at least 16GB is recommended but 8GB will suffice for less intensive usage).
What drum VSTs you go for relies heavily on the genre or style you are composing for. You may look into electronic drums for EDM or video game scores, or softer, mellow kits for jazz ensembles.
You are likely to own a few different drum libraries for this reason. A good place to start would be to consider what kind of composition or song you are writing, or if you simply want a standard, all-round kit.
The Natural end of the scale will show clean, unprocessed presets, whereas the Extreme side will show heavily-processed, pre-produced presets. This combination addresses one of the frequent criticisms of drum libraries in that they contain too much reverb.
The AD2 program allows easy access for you to tweak one of their in-built drum presets, or to build up a custom kit of your own. The mixing tools in the preset drums are straightforward, meaning less time is spent in the tech and more time composing.
The Edit tab will take you to a window with even more settings to customize including EQ, distortion, tape, and noise. These are adjusted per drum part (snare, bass) and per microphone (overheads, room) for even further tweaking and unique custom settings.
In the Beats tab on the top right of the window you will find a variety of grooves where you can search stylized beats with their own set of variations. You can even place what drum part goes on what beat to get finely tuned results according to your composition. This is done in the grid search.
As mentioned above, there are some really neat features that cater to beginner or professional composers and producers looking to add that perfect kit to their project. This library stands out with its user-friendly interface that comes with advanced settings to create a customized sound and beat. It is industry-standard and the drum presets sound amazing with little to no effort.
Overall, Damage is a fantastic choice for cinematic, and industrial-orchestral fusion kits and percussive sounds. The sound palette makes it a favorite for composers, producers and sound designers. It is a must-have for those looking to incorporate epic, trailer music-style drums to their mixes.
The engineer behind the library is the multi-award-winning Chuck Ainlay, known for his work with the Dixie Chicks and Dire Straits. This library is best suited for songwriters looking to amplify their tracks with drums full of depth and flavor. 041b061a72
