I have in the last few weeks received emails "offering" discounts on an upgrade to Nitro PDF Pro 13.x for macOS. When I started to look into it I paid for an upgrade to PDFpen 13.x in April (after the acquisition, so the receipt states Nitro as the seller) and am running 13.1 since then. Could someone explain why I am getting these offers? Where do I download 13.3? I found some links here in the community that refer to the old Smile site, but they are being redirected to a Nitro page that contains no downloads and no information.
Some month ago I did the shift to the latest PDFpen Pro (which is now sold and maintained by Nitro instead Smile). running v 13.1 on M! latest OS 12.5.1 with latest Hook 3.7.1.(4869) as of today.
After upgrading to Ventura 13.1, all PDF files are shown with Adobe Acrobat icons in Finder even though Acrobat is not the default application. When clicked on a PDF file, about 50% of the time, the PDF file was opened with Acrobat. And 40% of the time, the PDF file was opened in the default application. The remaining 10% of the time, the default application tried to open the PDF, but an error saying the default application is untrusted is displayed.
I tried to override application security on "PDF Expert.app" by holding down while clicking on the application according to this article -developer-cannot-be-verified-error-5183898. It did not change the behavior. Note that I used PDF Expert for many years and I know it is safe. The last update of the app happened in July 2022, and I opened the app dozens of time every day. The problem was caused by the latest Ventura 13.1 update.
